Nationally renowned author Katie Wood is an Avon  native and busy mom of four young children.  As a former teacher, Katie recognizes the importance of instilling a growth mindset in children.  Katie will share her  daily journal, A Simple Seed, and practices to help children build habits to choose love over hate,  forgiveness over anger, and courage over fear.  In support of a growth mindset, these practices help children learn to trust themselves to meet life’s  challenges with confidence and inner strength and that they have control over their effort and  attitude.  Books will be available for purchase the night of the event.

Trooper First Class James White from the Connecticut State Police will lead an  interactive session for parents and caregivers to  explore a wide range of topics including the various social media platforms  students use, their behaviors online, and how they employ games and apps to keep information  hidden.  Participating in this session (bring a phone, tablet or laptop) will help you stay-up-to-date with the latest trends and equip you with the knowledge and tools necessary to help keep our children safe in the digital world.
