Postural Screenings *Will begin January 2024*

Postural screening consists of screening for postural abnormalities. Section 10-214 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) specify that postural screening be done for (1) each female student in grades five and seven, and (2) each male student in grade eight.

The objectives of the in school screenings are:

• To identify students who have physical signs of postural abnormalities. • To allow for appropriate evaluation and possible treatment to students with postural abnormalities through the collaboration of school health services and families health care providers.

The School Nurses will be conducting Postural screenings beginning this January .

If you do not wish for your child to be screened, please email the nurses at : nursegmms@granbyschools.org

Notices will be sent home after completion only if we are unable to screen your student or with any findings that may require follow up with your physician

CURRENT 6TH  GRADE FAMILIES:

Students enrolled in CT public schools are required to have a health examination during the 6th grade year. We may accept physicals completed after the last day of 5th grade and submitted to the school prior to entry to grade 7. The physical examination MUST include the starred areas on the form, including the Immunization requirements sectionalso starred on the form. The abbreviated sports physical form does not suffice for this.

If your child will participate in school based athletics, physicals are required to be no older than 13months from the time of participation. The Blue CT Health Assessment form can be accepted for both athletics and the 6th grade physical, but the abbreviated sports physical is ONLY good for sports participation.

*We recommend that you keep a copy of this record for your files as many camps and sport teams require copies
